Title: macOS instant crash
Post by: earwax on October 15, 2016, 07:25:12 PM
DefleMask looks really cool! I just downloaded the version from the homepage (0.12.0) but it crashes instantly when I run it on my MacBook Pro  :'(
I cannot seem to find anyone else having this problem... any ideas on things to try?

I included the crash report. I'll be glad to supply more information if needed.

Next time please use Pastebin (http://pastebin.com). People shouldn't have to download a text file.

Under the recently released macOS Sierra it crash on startup. Will be fixed on v0.12.1 that will be online soon.

That's great :) If there is anything I can do to help, or test, please let me know. (I am an experienced developer).

Found a workaround for running in Sierra! It's so simple:

- Open a terminal and cd to DefleMask root folder (Where DefleMask.app is)
- run the following command: open DefleMask.app/Contents/MacOS/applet

Perfect start to my weekend  :P

Or, another way of doing it without touching your keyboard:

- Right click on the DefleMask.app to show context menu
- Select 'Show Package Contents' or equivalent in your language
- Open folder Contents/MacOS
- Doubleclick 'applet' to launch the application

Here's an even faster solution than that one:
1. Do what you just did up until before you double-click "applet"
2. Right click it and select "Make Alias" (or whatever)
3. Move the file that you just created to the DefleMask root folder
4. Rename it to "Launch DefleMask" or something

After you have done all this, all you have to do in order to launch DefleMask is double-click on "Launch DefleMask" (or whatever you renamed the alias)! (Note that I haven't tested this, as I do not currently have access to a computer with macOS (or even Mac OS X).)

Thanks for the workaround suggestions, I'll try those out! I had the instant crash problem in the 12.1 pre-release. Here's what I wrote on another thread about it:

Quote
I'm having the same problem, and I know I've used deflemask on this Mac before (I reinstalled the operating system and upgraded my ram recently, so I had to reinstall deflemask). I can also confirm that it crashes on startup in the 12.1 pre-release.

First time I double click on Deflemask, Mac says "cannot open the application because the disk it was on has been ejected." Second time it tries to open normally, but immediately shows the "Deflemask quit unexpectedly" giving me the option to reopen (for the same result), report to apple, or ignore.

I know that linux users have to install a library for deflemask to work, but the FAQ in the manual doesn't say anything about Macs.

I have a Windows PC, so no big deal for me, but some help would be appreciated :).

MacOS Sierra 10.12.2, mid-2010 MacBook.

We are working on an absolute fix for this. The next version will boot up perfectly on Sierra.
