[Tutorial] 64-bit Debian based Linux distros and DefleMask

A little bit about what I have:  I'm running 64-bit Linux Mint 13 (Debian) with 8GB RAM and quad-core 3.8GHz AMD processor.

My initial problem of course was that DefleMask would not execute.  I checked path and permissions.  DefleMask in its archive was set as an executable.

What dependencies does DefleMask need?  As far as I knew all it needed was OpenGL libraries.

So...

sudo apt-get install freeglut3

Still didn't work!  It wasn't even recognizing DefleMask as a binary file let alone executing it.  It dawned on me to remember that DefleMask is likely a 32-bit executable.

So...

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

Hrm...

ALSA lib ../../src/conf.c:3314:(snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib ../../../src/pcm/pcm.c:2217:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM default

After searching around at different emulator forums regarding this error, they said to download something called "lib32asound2-plugins".  Linux Mint 13 (Debian) does not have this in their repositories so I had to get the DEB file from the Debian packages repository.

After this was installed, voila, DefleMask worked!

Edit:

Here's a screenshot!

Wow awesome. This will help a lot to Linux users, specifically for 64bits distros. I should add the necessary libs and the fact that DefleMask is a 32bits app in the manual.

Thanks for sharing this.

Why not create a *.deb file for it as well?  Most popular versions of Linux are based on Debian anyway these days.  That way DefleMask can be installed, reinstalled, and uninstalled with a single *.deb file each time. :)

Heyo! It's been awhile since I posted here. I recently got a new (used) computer on ebay. I decided to try deflemask again and boy was I furious when it wouldn't run. I installed Linux Mint 14 64 bit. Anyways, for me, all it took was installing ia32-libs. Shiny new install too. Also, I'm excited we get to play with the SID now too!
