Title: Any way to emulate these DT2 effects on YM2612?
Post by: Alianger on October 11, 2017, 06:20:14 PM
I noticed a couple of neat effects having a look at the instruments of BGM1 from Shinobi (ARC), which I think I replicated properly for YM2151 (for some reason the DT2 effects didn't carry over to the ripped instruments).
How can I replicate them on YM2612?

Hi Alianger,

Yeah, can't really use DT2 effects on 2612. However, there is a nice handy little substitute that can work sometimes.

Using the SSG-EG in place of your DT2 usage can do the trick. It's not perfect, but it get's close to the Trumpet grunge, or that metallic clank of the percussion.

You can tune your SSG-EG effect by changing the Attack, Decay, MULT, or Rate Scale settings. I'd stick with SSG-EG settings 0 or 6 in your case.

See if the attached edits I made are satisfactory.

Thanks Marc, if I switch to a non ssg-eg brass after the attack and then it works pretty well. The percussion sounds pretty good too though I couldn't make it work for this track.

There is this other method found in from Sylvester & Tweety (MD) that I can't quite figure out, which is different but sounds really good for brass:

You kind of get there by changing TL1 on the brass but not quite. Any ideas? I have a vague memory of using two different vibratos at once in VGM MM for a similar result, but it doesn't seem to work in DM.
