Sega Mega-CD and/or Sega 32X support
« on: July 03, 2017, 01:35:36 am »
Hi, I already have to vote for new sound system chips like Sega CD and Sega 32X.
In Sega Mega-CD had sound chips used especially RF5C164 8 channels
And in Sega 32X had sound chips used in particular PWM 1, 2 or 12 channels

Vote for your special systems.

PC engine + CD-ROMĀ² ADPCM and/or PC-FX would be a better idea though...

Would Sega CD add anything beyond PCM? 32X though is interesting. Very few games utilized the 32X sound hardware much. Even Knuckles Chaotix, a Sega title, only used it for drums.

IMHO I don't like the 32X thing just because it's so arbitrary on what that actually means. Unlike the Z80 through the MD's DAC, on the 32X you get *two* SH2 CPUs, and you can write a very fully featured PWM driver that runs entirely on the slave SH2. I mean, you could even toss an entire 16-channel XM file together and call it "32X" because that's entirely doable on real hardware while still leaving the master SH2 free to do all of the game and rendering logic.

I suppose Delek could do something like YM2612 + PSG + four channel PWM with sample loop and samplerate adjustment with 20XX, but yeah real 32X pwm is extremely arbitrary.

Those that use double DAC in 8-bit PWM DAC the sound chip Sega 32X, are seen in MAME source code from digital-to-analog signal converter.
