Does anyone have a link to this program? Found mention of it here but the link is dead: http://soundshock.se/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=173

Or any other tool to rip instruments from for example Burning Force and Arcus Odyssey.

Thanks!

Any chance that anyone has vopm files of any of the tracks from the Battle Garegga OST? I have VGMs of all of the tracks, but no way to rip the patches :(

You have to compile it by yourself. Are you on Linux or OS X? It is more easy there.

Alright, no I'm on windows but found a few guides. I'll look into it tomorrow.

Edit: There was actually a .exe on that site under releases, which works.

Guys, how do I listen to plain .mdx files in Hoot? It only seems to work with the packs it came with, and if I get chipamp for winamp I can't listen to other formats like MD, Qsound etc so I have to uninstall and reinstall plugins to switch between them.

I have an MDX plugin for Foobar2000 that I use. If you have Foobar, you can search for the MDX plugin. I'm also able to drag and drop MDX files straight into Hoot and they will play, but I don't know how to compile an XML for anything regarding Hoot.

That's interesting, where did you get Hoot from and which version then? I can load files by dropping them but there's no sound. This was the explanation from the github guy: "Hoot doesn't play MDX files, it emulates the CPU and sound chips and runs a bit of extracted code from the games."

I got it to work using a player called MXP though, but the sound is very low volume and seems slightly worse quality than in the others as well. I'll check out Foobar2000 but I don't think it lets you mute channels, which MXP does let you.

I'm using the latest version of Hoot from its website. It needs MXDRV to work which can also be downloaded from that site.

Yes, finally it works. :D I somehow got hold of a version of Hoot that I think was from 2007 earlier.

Hoot itself you can get from the official site - http://dmpsoft.s17.xrea.com/data/hoot20151231.7z
xml's and roms(music only) here - http://hoot.joshw.info/
Hoot voice ripper here - http://nrtdrv.sakura.ne.jp/arc/hvr/HVR08.ZIP it allows you to save instruments from hoot (read HVR_EN.TXT on how to use it)

The voice ripper could be useful, thanks.

Any recommendations on impressive soundtracks btw?

I'm telling you guys, vgm2tfi can dump patches from YM2151 VGM's. I've already done it before =\

I read this comment on the vgmrips forum, but when I try to rip instruments from Power Drift, it says there aren't any in the file. Do you know what's wrong? My vgm2tfi is from 2008, guess it's v1.0. I've read about 1.1 but I guess Shiru removed it.

Did I comment that? I do recall randomly trying one or two Arcade VGM's and it working, but others I have tried didn't work. I don't know why.

I have vgm2tfi in my dropbox folder, and it seems to be the latest one (1.1) according to the readme.txt. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/59931286/vgm2tfi.rar

It says it works for the YM2151, but it doesn't seem to work for all. Maybe it only works for VGM's using version 1.51 and lower, but I haven't done any major testing to make sure.
