17xx is the effect command that enables/disables PCM playback on the PC Engine. 1701 enables it and 1700 disables it. When you enable PCM playback on any channel of the HuC6280 (PC Engine's soundchip), it disables the wavetable output.
Very nice! Although I think it would have to be a Supergrafx game to play samples without any noticeable lag, considering you went for empty channels for SFX.
Dammit, the weakest point about the PC Engine is the fact it can't play samples without trickery.
Also, the "Organlike" instrument reminds me of MSX Gradius 2 and Parodius  :D

Here you go, it has a few instruments included with it. Done quickly.
EDIT: I just realized, you can recreate the arpeggios with the 00xx effect. Only the 0C arpeggio is really that useful.

So I was trying to make a cover of 6beat.mod and on CHN3 pattern 1 it looks like the 17xx effect messed up the wavetable data, more clearly Wave 0. :(
Is there anyway to get around this? Is this a bug? ???

8xx - Panning
Panning will change the sound output of the channel to the right or the left
speakers, normally it is 0x01 right, 0x10 left, and 0x11 both. However, some
systems have different stereo behavior. You will need to check these
Might want to specify that a 0x00 value sets output to both and not none as someone could expect. (I did  ;D)

Also page 17 in portamento down, missing "until":
The effect will continue it is turned off by setting xx to 00.
I decided to give myself the challenge of making a PCE/TG-16 song using only 4 channels. This leaves out two channels, which is just enough for SFX. Enjoy!
