Video game music cover thread
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:01:09 AM »
(previously called "[Genesis] Super Mario Bros. - Overworld" and "Cover game music on a different system")
Just post covers of video game music.

Previous post:

Take a song from any video game, and cover it on any system EXCEPT the system the game was originally designed for. (Bonus points if the system you covered it on has less channels than the original system. ;) )

This is the first second thing I made with Deflemask. I tried to get as accurate as possible with this, and I'm surprised I was even able to pull it off.

Attached is the original DMF, plus a VGM and a ROM, just in case.

EDIT: Minor fixes.

Next up: Sonic the Hedgehog on Game Boy. :P

EDIT: Fixed some weird timing (what the hell was I thinking setting the timing to 01/07?)
EDIT2: Accidentally created a better waveform for the wave channel.

Some of the best ideas were discovered by accident, like the Telephone. :)

Also, bitchin' Super Mario Bros. Cover! 8) Heard the first one, but will dl the whole zip and have a listen. It's sure to be good.

Edit Re Sonic: I have also corrected a few things, as they sounded a bit off (the bass part in particular and just one other note somewhere). Other than that, it sounds as if it DID exist for GB one upon a time - and that's cool! :) Also added some vibrato at the end for good measure and for fun.

Edit 2: Just dl'd and had a listen to the whole zip. Spot on. 8)

I think that this thread can evolve to "cover a game's music in a different system" :)

It just did.

Well, I don't have anything new as of right now, so have this cover of the first stage of Sparkster* on NES, which I did using F*m*tr*-*shot*

*Sparkster as in the Genesis version.

I started to cover this song from Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (which is a Game Boy game) on the Genesis. I'm still getting used to the YM2612, so this one is kinda meh. Also, no drums yet.

Sorry for the double post.

I've started covering Green Hill Zone on the Game Boy.

Did you use the Green Hill track included with DefleMask as a start base?

Actually, no. I transcribed it from a VGM.

EDIT: Also, I should mention that the Green Hill Zone demo song is extremely inaccurate, as are the Hill Top and Spring Yard demo songs.

EDIT2: Also, here's another thing which I actually FINISHED! :O (To be specific: DuckTales 2 on Genesis.)

I at LEAST have to get on board with this one!  ;D

Here's Launch Base Zone (kind of mixed the both of them together because I did this by ear) for Gameboy!
